GOP Congressman under fire for abortions, extra-marital affairs

Newly released documents show that Tennessee Republican Congressman Scott DesJarlais had numerous extra-marital affairs and supported his ex-wife's decision to have two abortions.
As reported by Digital Journal last month, DesJarlais, a physician, had come until fire after he admitted to having an affair with one of his patients and subsequently pressuring her to have an abortion when she became pregnant.


During his recent re-election campaign, DesJarlais stated "all life should be cherished and protected. We are pro-life."


That position has come into question however. Recently released court transcripts reveal that his former wife had two abortions while the couple was together. DesJarlais admits that he was aware of his wife's plans to have the abortions and that they made the decision to terminate the pregnancies together.


According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, transcripts also show that DesJarlais also admitted under oath to having sexual relationships with three co-workers and a pharmaceutical company representative while he was married. He also admitted to having affairs with at least two patients during his time at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tenn.


In the days leading up to the Nov. 6th election, DesJarlais' attorney vehemently denied that he had been involved in sexual relationships while married, telling the Jackson Sun:

?I can assure you it?s not in the transcript".

In October, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint with the Tennessee Department of Health claiming DesJarlais violated state law by engaging in a sexual relationship with patients. When questioned about the newest revelations, Tennessee State Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey told reporters:

?There are some that voted, thinking next time there?ll be somebody else in the primary ? we don?t want Pelosi to be speaker, so one more time we?ll vote for Scott. He?ll have a primary opponent. I mean, he knows that.?
