Heavy hearts don't weigh down Sox

CLEVELAND -- Streaking to their fourth straight win, the Red Sox handily beat the Cleveland Indians and former manager Terry Francona, 7-2.
??? ?
Despite the one-sided nature of the victory, the Red Sox struck out a season-high 16 times while also working nine walks while accumulating just six hits, including just one after the third inning.
??? ?
The 16 strikeouts were the most for the Red Sox since they fanned 17 times against Tampa Bay on Sept. 21, 2007. It also marked the first time the team had struck out at least 16 times and walked at least nine times in a nine-inning game.
??? ?
Boston took advantage of Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez's wildness in the second to score all seven its runs. Jimenez walked five in that inning, including two with the bases loaded.
??? ?
Mike Napoli, who won Monday's game at Fenway with a walk-off double, had two more doubles -- both in the second inning -- including one with the bases loaded.
??? ?
Felix Doubront, gift-wrapped with a big lead in the second, got through five innings, but his pitch count -- 104 -- cut his outing short.
??? ?
Clayton Mortensen pitched two innings of relief with Alex Wilson finished up with two more.

STAR OF THE GAME: Mike Napoli
??? ?
Napoli continued his hot run at the plate with two doubles in the same inning -- one with the bases loaded -- to account for three of the seven runs the Red Sox scored in the second inning. After a slow start, Napoli has 11 RBI in his last eight games.

HONORABLE MENTION: Felix Doubront
??? ?
He only got the Red Sox through five before 104 pitches shortened his night, but he gets cut some slack since he was pitching on 10 days' rest.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Ubaldo Jimenez.
??? ?
Jimenez didn't give the Indians much of a chance, walking five batters in the second -- including two with the bases loaded -- and lasting just an innings and two-thirds.
??
TURNING POINT: Already leading 4-0 in the top of the second, Napoli drove a ball to the wall in left-center, clearing the bases and putting the Sox up by seven runs.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Red Sox have won the opener of all five series they've played to date -- the first time they've done that to open a season since 2006.

QUOTE OF NOTE: "This was a good way to maybe send some positive energy back to Boston." -- John Farrell on the Red Sox 7-2 win following the Boston Marathon tragedy.
