The Road to WrestleMania runs through Madison Square Garden

Though the curtain rises on The Grandest Stage of Them All in 14 days, the sellout crowd at the World?s Most Famous Arena felt the reverberations of The Road to WrestleMania as it ran through New York City on Sunday afternoon.

WWE Superstars including WWE Champion CM Punk, John Cena and a returning Triple H descended upon the WWE Live Event at Madison Square Garden to prepare for their respective clashes at WrestleMania XXVIII. (PHOTOS) WWE.com was on hand to cover the competition and collect rare footage of a noteworthy night that produced its own share of controversy.

Triple H, who competed in the ring for the first time since he agreed to an ?End of an Era? rematch against The Undertaker at WrestleMania, showed his readiness for The Showcase of The Immortals during his Six-Man Tag Team Match in NYC. Rather than seal a victory for himself as well as teammates CM Punk and Randy Orton, The Game refrained from executing the Pedigree on Dolph Ziggler in favor of sending a message to The Deadman. Triple H then mimicked Taker?s signature gestures before performing a Tombstone piledriver to put Ziggler away. (WATCH)

Cena got in the last word on Sunday after getting a chance to renew his rivalry with Kane in the main event. The Cenation leader collided with The Big Red Monster in a Last Man Standing Match before addressing the capacity crowd at MSG. Cena expressed his gratitude for the support of the WWE Universe ahead of his ?Once in a Lifetime? battle with The Rock in two weeks? time at WrestleMania XXVIII.

The leaders of Team Teddy and Team Johnny also made their mark on Sunday?s championship clashes at MSG. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth appeared to seize the WWE Tag Team Championship from Primo & Epico, but Raw Interim General Manager John Laurinaitis overturned the decision and dubiously distracted Kofi when the bout restarted. In other action, Jack Swagger seemingly capitalized on his title opportunity against United States Champion Santino Marella. However, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long reversed the result in the favor of Team Teddy?s captain due to The All-American American using the ropes for leverage during the pin. (WATCH)

While the GMs of Raw and SmackDown influenced those decisions, The Miz can blame only himself for his troubles against Zack Ryder on Sunday. Looking to prove he deserves a match at WrestleMania, The Awesome One left MSG with a strong performance but little to show for his efforts despite pushing his opponent to the limit. The same can't be said for Ryder, whose success at MSG can only support his pleas to join Team Teddy for the Six-Man Tag Team Match?at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on April 1?that will determine the undisputed General Manager of Raw and SmackDown.
