Go Green! | Jordan Real Estate Inc

?While doing research on ways owners can make their living space more ?green,?? a thought went through my mind? Am I environmentally conscious?? Why yes?I recycle at home, I reuse paper, and I try to save on electricity by not using the A/C.? Then I pondered the question more.?

What about at the Jordan Real Estate office?

Sure, many of you are conscious about all those things at home, but is it the same type of deal at work?? Did you know that a company of only?4 individuals can?use over 2,000 sheets of paper in 3 days?? Imagine how many sheets of paper are used in a large corporation of over 500 people!? And it?s not just about?how much paper is being?consumed either.? It?s also about the amount of electricity used, the amount of water that goes down the drain, and the number of plastic utensils/cups being thrown away in the trash (not being recycled).? If you?re not sure whether or not?your company engages in environmentally friendly practices, just ask!

So I asked my employees here at the office, what we all do here together, to make this office more ?green:

  • I (Renee Jordan), enforce the use of printing on the backs of used paper.? What if I made a mistake printing something out?? I don?t just throw it away, I put it in the ?re-use paper? bin.? This bin is located in the conference room and I strongly encourage my employees to place paper in the bin if it can be reused.? However, please be aware, we do not print on confidential documents or documents that contain information about clients.? Those we shred!
  • JoAnna, one of our agents, prints on both sides of the paper.? She?s ahead of the game!? She has configured her printer settings on her laptop to print on both sides automatically.
  • Maria, another agent, brings her own mug to work.? That way, she doesn?t use paper cups at the water cooler.? She can just wash and reuse her mug!
  • Lisa, another one of our agents, loves fresh air on hot days.? She would rather open the window than turn on the fan.? She?s not only saving electricity, but she?s circulating the entire office and creating a cooler environment for everyone!
  • Erica, our marketing & property managment coordinator, brings her lunch to work in a reusable plastic container in a resuable lunch bag.? She?s doesn?t use plastic sandwich bags or paper bags.? It not only saves paper, but also reduces the costs of buying plastic sandwich bags every 2.5 weeks.

Other ways we contribute:

  • We have only one trash bin in the office and recycling bins at every single desk.? We recycle as much paper as we can and we have recently downgraded to a bucket sized trash bin.?
  • We also reuse our manila folders.? Instead of throwing them away once we are done, we just keep them and relabel them.?
  • ?We leave our front door open when it gets too hot in the office, instead of turning on the A/C.
  • We open all of the blinds to utilize natural light in the daytime.

Surprisingly, we are a lot more ?green? than we realized.? The little things we do around here at the office, makes a huge difference for our environment.? All it takes is one small step to start a positive movement at the workplace.? And think about how much money you?ll be saving in the end!? It?s absolutely well worth it! :)
