Guangzhou Automobile Group Announces A Shares First Interim Results

Net Profit in First-Half nearly RMB1.5 billion

HONG KONG, Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ ? Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (?Guangzhou Automobile Group? or the ?Company?; stock codes: 2238.HK; 601238.SH), today announced its interim results for the first half of 2012. Interim report shows that the sales revenue of the Company amounted to RMB5,482 million, an increase of 5.67% compared to the same period last year. The Company and its joint ventures and associated companies realized total revenues of approximately RMB78,816 million, an increase of approximately RMB9,987 million, or approximately 14.51% compared with the same period last year. The net profit attributable to equity holders of the Company amounted to RMB 1,482 million and the earnings per share were RMB0.24. The Board of Directors recommended a payment of an interim dividend of RMB0.07 per share (including tax) for the year ended 30 June 2012.

After consecutive years of rapid growth, China?s automobile production and sales have entered the high consolidation phase in the past two years. In the first half of 2012, subject to the slowdown in domestic macroeconomic growth and automobile purchase restriction in some cities, the sales of the domestic automobile market recorded a significant reduction compared to the same period last year. According to the statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the production and sales of cars in the first half of this year were 9,529,200 units and 9,598,100 units respectively, representing a respective increase of 4.1% and 2.9%, compared to the same period last year and translating to a modest growth in the overall automobile production and sales. The production and sales of motorcycles were 11,629,100 units and 11,738,100 respectively, representing a respective decrease of 11.41% and 10.82% compared to the same period last year and reaching their lowest in the past six years over the same period.

Despite the adverse impacts of the slowdown in macroeconomic growth and automobile industry growth, the Company managed to realize sales growth in the sluggish market environment through market development, inventory adjustment, cost reduction and marketing, based on the interim report of the Company.

In the first half of this year, Guangzhou Automobile Group realized sales volume of 369,700 units, an increase of 17.25% compared to the same period last year. Among which the sales of passenger vehicles amounted to 351,800 units, an increase of 15.32% compared to the same period last year while the sales of commercial vehicles amounted to 472,100 units, an increase of 13.80% compared to the same period last year. In the first half of this year, the year-on-year growth in the Company?s sales of both vehicles and motorcycles was higher than the industry average.

In the light of the difficult market environment and fierce competition, Guangzhou Automobile Group run sales promotions for some of its brands, resulting in a decline in profit margins and a modest drop in net profit compared to the same period in 2011.

In addition to the relatively fast growth in sales, the Company made significant achievements during the first half of this year, including the listing of A shares, research and development, introduction of new products, construction of production capacity, expansion of business chain and the innovation in management mechanism.

Based on the interim report, the asset restructuring involved in the Guangzhou Automobile Group?s convertible merger with GAC Changfeng and the follow-up work of the joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors are advancing smoothly. The new 2.4L Crosstour, launched by Guangqi Honda, a major investee of the Company, was well received. GAC Toyota CAMRY pushed forward the application and promotion of hybrid vehicle technology while realizing the upgrade of CAMRY while CAMRY HEV, a model of petrol and electric hybrid powered vehicle, has also been formally launched onto the market. The independent innovation and proprietary brand of the Company realized new breakthroughs. Trumpchi GS5, the first SUV model of proprietary brand which has been produced and sold since April, completed C-NCAP test and assessment in May and obtained five-star assessment of scores of 49.1. Its market response was good and sales increased every month. Construction of the plant of GAC FIAT was successfully completed on 28th June, and the first model of vehicle, Viaggio, of GAC FIAT formally commenced production. The completion of the new plant and the addition of new product will further enhance the Company?s capacity and enrich the production line. In addition, Guangzhou Automobile Group provides sales of cars, after-sales service, logistics and import and export, car leasing, automobile finance and insurance services through Guangzhou Automobile Group Business Co., Ltd, GAC-SOFINCO Automobile Finance Co., Ltd. and Urtrust Insurance Co., Ltd., which develops and upgrades the chain synergies of the automotive industry.

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? The first scientific analysis of nutrient levels in edible microgreens has found that many of those trendy seedlings of green vegetables and herbs have more vitamins and healthful nutrients than their fully grown counterparts.

A report on the research appears in ACS' Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Qin Wang, Gene E. Lester and colleagues point out that microgreens have gained popularity as a new culinary trend over the past few years, especially in upscale markets and restaurants. Those seedlings of spinach, lettuce, red cabbage and other veggies are usually 1-3 inches in height and harvested within 14 days of germination. They enhance the color, texture and flavor of salads, soups, sandwiches and other foods. Despite their growing popularity, no scientific information existed on how nutrients in microgreens compare to those in mature plants. To fill that gap, they analyzed vitamins and other phytochemicals in 25 varieties of microgreens.

They found that microgreens generally have higher concentrations of healthful vitamins and carotenoids than their mature counterparts. But they also found wide variations in nutrient levels among the plants tested in the study. Red cabbage microgreens, for instance, had the highest concentration of vitamin C, for instance, while green daikon radish microgreens had the most vitamin E. Principle One: The first principle building a healthy relationship is trust. A healthy relationship must ultimately be based on trust. To build trust, you always keep your word. You remain consistent and dependable in everything you say and do. You become the kind of team player who is utterly reliable in every situation. You never do or say anything that can shake this foundation of trust upon which a healthy relationship is built.

Principle Two: The second principle for building a healthy relationship is respect. Taking time to deliberately express your respect for the uniqueness of an individual makes him or her feel valuable and important. By demonstrating that kind of respect, you build and enhance the quality of your relationships and become a respected team player yourself.

And there is a boomerang effect that causes your own self-esteem to go up, exactly as if you yourself had been praised or appreciated.

Principle Seven: The seventh principle for success in building a healthy relationship is simply helpfulness. Your constant willingness to step in and do little things to alleviate the burdens felt by your team is always appreciated and respected. This willingness to share, to contribute, to help each other is an important facet of lasting relationships that can help you earn respect as a team player.

Renowned pianist Van Cliburn diagnosed with cancer

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) ? Renowned classical pianist Van Cliburn has been diagnosed with advanced bone cancer and is resting comfortably at his Texas home, his publicist said Monday.

The 78-year-old Cliburn is under excellent care and his spirits are high, said longtime friend and publicist Mary Lou Falcone.

Cliburn skyrocketed to fame in 1958 when he won the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow at age 23. He triumphantly returned to a New York ticker tape parade, the only one ever for a classical musician, and a Time magazine cover proclaimed him "The Texan Who Conquered Russia."

In the years that followed, Cliburn's popularity soared, and the young man from the small east Texas town of Kilgore sold out concerts, broke record sales, caused riots when spotted in public and even prompted an Elvis Presley fan club to change its name to his.

But he tired of years of performing mainly the same pieces that made him famous ? such as Tchaikovsky's "Piano Concerto No. 1," which had sealed his Moscow win ? and took a sabbatical in 1978, feeling emotionally drained from nonstop touring. Cliburn later moved from New York to Fort Worth, where he currently lives and where he remained active in the arts and social scenes. He began playing publicly again in the late 1980s.

Until only recently, Cliburn practiced daily and performed limited engagements.

He has performed for every president since Harry Truman, and for years has devoted his time to the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Founded by Fort Worth music teachers in 1962, it's held every four years and considered among the world's premier piano competitions.

Cliburn won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, and was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003.

He was already an accomplished pianist before winning the 1958 competition in Moscow. He started taking piano lessons from his mother at age 3, then debuted with the Houston Symphony Orchestra at age 12. He studied at Juilliard, won the famed Leventritt Competition and performed with several orchestras across the country ? including the New York Philharmonic.

Despite its importance to the overall health of the body, when a body is healthy, the thyroid gland cannot even be felt.

The thyroid is richly supplied with blood through a vast network of blood vessels.

Several hormones are secreted by the thyroid, but the main hormone, in fact commonly referred to as "thyroid hormone" is thyroxin. Thyroxin, also referred to as T4, influences many activities and functions of the body, including growth, physical and mental development, body temperature, and metabolism. During childhood, thyroid hormone is critical for the development of the brain.

Considering the importance of the thyroid, and thyroxin, to so many aspects of health, it is not surprising that there can be many negative conditions which can occur as a result of a problem with the thyroid.

Unfortunately for those experiencing various conditions which affect, or are affected by, the thyroid, many of the conditions may exist for some time with little or no outwardly noticeable ill affects. This delay in diagnosing or treating a thyroid conditins may be the cause of various health problems. Since one of the most important functions of the thyroid is to control how your body uses energy, you can understand that hypothyroidism can have a negative affect on many aspects of health, fitness, and just plain zest for life.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism can commonly include feelings of tiredness, weakness, depression, inability to withstand cold, dry skin, constipation, brittle nails, problems with memory and sluggish or unclear thought processes. Women may experience irregular and/or heavy menstrual periods.

While not necessarily directly linked to an increase in weight, the sluggishness and lack of energy associated with hypothyroidism can make it difficult to lose weight or to prevent weight gain, especially as it also tends to be associated with a decreased metabolic rate.

Slower metabolism means weight gain, unless offset in some way by alterations in diet, increased exercise, or, preferably, both.

As you can see, many items listed as symptoms of hypothyroidism could also indicate a great many other health problems as well. Many of the problems listed could be related to a dietary deficiency, a Candida overgroth, or a lifetime of bad habits.
